The Ducati DesertX has always been one of the most capable and characterful adventure bikes on the market, but for 2026 Ducati has given it a major update. The biggest change comes in the form of the new V2 engine, but there's much more going on beneath the surface than just a new powerplant.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with the new DesertX on UK roads, away from the official launch event, to find out what these changes mean in the real world.

This isn't a deep dive into every specification or technical detail. Instead, it's a genuine first ride experience, sharing my thoughts on how the new DesertX feels on the road, how the V2 engine changes the character of the bike, and whether Ducati has actually improved an already excellent adventure motorcycle.

Most people know the North West 200 for the incredible road racing, but after a few days in Northern Ireland on two wheels, I discovered there's far more to this iconic event than just what happens on the circuit.
